To design your hydronic heating solution, we first determine your overall heating requirements. This mathematical formula is called a “heat load calculation”. This calculation is used to determine the size of your system and the required Kilowatt output to efficiently heat your property. The calculation takes everything into account from floor space and the heights of your ceilings to construction materials and insulation. Once we have the heat load calculated for your home, we design the system for the perfect heating fit for your requirements.

From here we recommend locations and sizes of the boiler, radiator panels and or manifolds (for in slab hydronic heating). One major advantage of Hydronic heating is that you can add to the system over time. This means your homes’ heating can grow with your family’s needs.

Condensing Hydronic boilers are state of the art gas fired boiler technology. With condensing technology compulsory in most European countries, these systems feature better emissions than their competitors and are much more energy efficient than standard efficiency (non-condensing) boilers.

Cost effective

A condensing boiler is highly efficient as it reuses the heat that is lost via the escaping gas, making it much more fuel efficient than older style noncondensing (standard efficiency) Hydronic boilers. This rescued gas usage means reduced running costs and due to its durability, the cost of repairs is reduced.

Hydronic heating is a closed loop system which means the system recycles the same water around and around again. We use bacterial inhibitors in the water to keep it clean and free from bacterial growth, so your system doesn’t require fresh water unless we need to top it up as part of regular maintenance or if you need to empty it for renovations or cleaning. Hence there are no costs associated with water usage after your system is filled.

Energy Efficient

The Ideal Range of condensing boilers are the most efficient hydronic boilers currently available. They are up to 95% efficient which makes them perfect for keeping the energy bills under control! Compare this to standard efficiency (SE) boilers which are between 10 and 15% less efficient as their flue emissions (and heat) are just released into the surrounding air.

Current Hydronic boilers have electronic ignition which means they do not even use gas to keep a pilot light on. When they are not in use, they do not use any energy, remaining dormant until needed.

Whisper Quiet Operation

All our hydronic boilers are whisper quiet while they’re in operation. With a small pump and fan, and no moving parts located inside the house you won’t ever be disturbed by annoying whirring noises when your hydronic heating is in use. Rather, your system will gently circulate warmed water throughout the hydronic system inside the house, gently and evenly dissipating heat through the building producing a quiet, gentle ambient heat.

What is a Hydronic Boiler

A hydronic boiler is the piece of equipment at the heart of every hydronic heating system. It heats the water and circulates it throughout the property. By using heated water to create the warmth inside the house this creates a gentle all round heat with no noise. As the heated water retains its heat better than air, this means the house doesn’t suddenly go cold as soon as the system is turned off. This also means Hydronic heating is cheaper to run than the alternatives.

How do Hydronic Boilers work?

Hydronic boilers perform two major functions. Heating and distribution of water.

At the centre of any boiler is a heat exchanger. This is where the gas ignites and then transfers the heat into the water inside the boiler. Then the pump starts and circulates the water throughout the hydronic system. Once the heat has dissipated from the water by passing through the house, it circulates back to the inside of the heat exchanger where the whole process repeats. That continues until the house reaches the desired temperature. Then the boiler turns off until the temperature drops when it will turn back on automatically to raise the temperature to the desired level. Or until you turn it off.

Types of Hydronic Boilers

There are several different types of Hydronic boilers available. There are high efficiency, standard efficiency boilers and now all electric Hydronic Heat Pumps. Please see the Heat Pump page for more information.

The main difference between the gas boilers is the amount of heat that they are capable of generating. This is determined by the size of your hydronic system. Plus, there is also a combination boiler available which can do both your Hydronic Heating and hot water.  We do have access to different brands of boilers and can quote these upon request.

Are there electric boilers for hydronic heating?

A Hydronic Heat Pump is the electrical equivalent of a boiler. Hydronic boilers are typically powered by natural gas while heat pumps are powered by electricity.

What size boiler should be used for my system?

This calculation is then used to determine the size of your system and the required Kilowatt output to efficiently heat your property. The calculation takes everything into account everything from floor space, construction materials, insulation, heights of ceilings to the dimensions of every window. Once we have the heat load calculated for your home, we can then design the system to ensure the perfect heating fit for your requirements.

How long does a hydronic boiler last?

At Nissl Eichert we have changed our brand loyalty over the years to what we consider is the best value for money in the Australian market. As this technology changes and evolves we are always keeping our ears to the ground for the latest developments in efficiency and technological advancements. We would always recommend using any equipment until it is too expensive to repair or is made redundant due to advances in technology. With both those conditions in mind we would expect these boilers to last between 10 & 15 years. In that time the advancement of greener technologies will have changed what we have to offer you in the future.

Can the Hydronic boiler do my hot water as well?

Yes, however the hot water production is very limited (22.5ltr per minute) in hydronic boilers. So in a nut shell the hydronic combination boilers only produce enough hot water for one outlet at a time. That’s not ideal if you have more than two residents or more than one bathroom. Also, if you ever have any mechanical problems with the boiler, you can lose your heating and hot water simultaneously which can be problematic. We would always recommend a separate and independent hot water service. It is an option to install a combination boiler if the property is small and space for appliances is extremely limited.

Does my hydronic boiler need servicing?

Yes. Like any gas appliance Hydronic heating boilers should be serviced. To ensure peak operating efficiency we would recommend an annual general service to ensure that the whole system is working at the most efficient level. Proactive maintenance tends to avoid any major problems before they happen and keeps running costs to a minimum.

Can I have different zones to run at different times and temperatures?

Yes, you can. Different zones can be installed at the time of installation, and these can be controlled at different times and at different temperatures.

How much does it cost to run hydronic heating?

That can’t easily be determined as it will depend on the price you are paying for your gas, the amount of time you have your heating on for each day, the temperature you are running your system at, the insulation levels of your house and what the outside temperature is doing.

How do I control my hydronic heating system?

The thermostat controller is located in a central location of the building (not too close to windows or radiator panels) so it reads the overall temperature of the house. Thermostats can be programmed to activate the heating at set times of the day. This can be multiple times of the day at different temperatures. Different for weekdays and weekends, individual days or if the house temperature drops to below a set point. You can also override the programmed times and turn the system on and off manually.

Where can I locate the boiler?

The boiler is normally wall hung outside the building. They need gas, water, and power to be able to operate. We recommend that they are easily accessible in case of repairs or maintenance. We try to avoid having them elevated where you need a ladder to access them or putting them on roofs.

Can my hydronic heating boiler be inside?

Yes! They need gas, water and power to be able to operate. However, if they are installed inside the building, they also require fluing of the exhaust emissions to the outside of the building. This adds to the cost and limits the potential locations we can install the boiler unit.
